The first reading log I wanted to discuss was one of the last reading logs we did on the duelling practices in Upper Canada.  For myself this reading log was very interesting because it is hard for me to imagine such a thing as duelling in Canada.  When I read the two articles I was appalled that this use to happen in Canada and was a practice used to ‘call’ people out on various things, such as a woman impure intentions.  I think the reason this reading log stuck out to me because I can not imagine if we used this practice in this day and age to settle disputes or rectify impurities.  I am sure some people might settle their disputes this way but it is not a practice widely used today and if people were to use duelling to settle a dispute I am positive they would be sentenced to jail time.  I enjoyed reading the two articles and learning about these past events being that I had no idea they took place in Canada’s history.  I also had a hard time viewing this reading log from the duellers point of view.  How could one think they were being honourable by killing someone.  I know duelling was a practice used to uphold a persons honour but I personally don’t see how the act of duelling is honourable.  You will find my attached reading log on my views of duelling in Upper Canada.
