Pioneer Women in Upper Canada
For my research paper I decided to research what life was like for the pioneer woman in Upper Canada during the early nineteenth century. For my document analysis I focused on Catharine Parr Traill who had wrote a lot about bush-settlement from her perspective. I took my primary document I used for the document analysis and started my research from there. I found the document analysis a lot easier than my research paper because I only had to focus on one document. The research paper was a lot more elaborate than the document analysis and I would not be truthful if I said it was easy. For both my document analysis and my research paper I consulted with Brenda from Thompson Rivers University library. She was extremely knowledgeable and a great deal of help. Brenda help provide additional sources and a different perspective on pioneer life. I also felt I could have added additional research to my paper that would have benefited the overall paper. There was so much information I read that I found it difficult to know what was really important and should be added versus what is just paper filler.
I chose this topic because I really did not know what else to write on. I knew I wanted to write about something relevant to my life and throughout my initial research I was intrigued by the pioneer woman. I can only imagine what daily life would have been like for the pioneer woman and the struggles they faced. In this day and age we have vehicles, electricity, grocery stores, restaurants, multi-room houses, and all the other luxuries that pioneer woman never had. I often wish I could live a week in the life of a pioneer woman just to appreciate all they had to do.
